Simon is 2!

Simon we are so proud of the little boy you are becoming. It seems like you have transformed from a baby to a little boy overnight.  You are tender-hearted and loving. You are full of life, aren't afraid to try new things and love to run everywhere you go. It has been so much fun to see you learn new words and figure out how to express the thoughts going on in your head. You are a great kid and we love you so much.

What Simon is doing
  • Simon is in constant motion. He loves to climb and jump.
  • He has mastered scootering this summer and is fast!
  • Has started asking constantly to use the toilet. He is highly motivated by candy and we bought him a potty seat. I haven't really started potty boot camp yet but I am letting him go when he wants. I need to get our house settled a bit more before I can get my mind around potty training.
  • Gives the best hugs and kisses

What Simon is saying
Simon has been really slow in the speak department but this summer things have really taken off. He is at almost 50 words which is a lot of words for this little man! He has even started putting two words together. He tracks with everything we say and can follow directions well. The cutest thing he says is “wuv u” Love you. Melts my heart every time.

Teeth: waiting on 2 year old molars

Eats
Simon is a great eater. He loves vegetables, fruit and pasta most of all. For breakfast he still loves oatmeal (with applesauce and cinnamon) and a fruit/keifer smoothie. If I make him a sandwich for lunch he usually eats all the middle (cheese, meat or peanut butter) avoiding as much of the bread as possible. One of his favorite dinners is lentil soup.  He has he biggest sweet tooth and will do just about anything for candy or ice cream.

Sleeps
I feel like this summer we have finally seen improvement on Simon's sleeping. It has been a long and hard road. For many months I felt like it would never get better. However, with Brad's help, cheer leading and optimism, we persevered through it. We stuck with a schedule and tackled sleep training hard. His body clock is much more firm than Joy's (jet lag with him is long and painful) and he needs less sleep overall than Joy. However, I am proud to say that he sleeps from 8pm-7am and takes a 1.5hr/2 hr nap each day around 12:30/1pm.

Weighs. He is still my long and lanky buddy, we don't have a scale here yet so I can't give a precise measurement. I think he is around 24lbs.

Likes
  • any and all balls + finding basket ball hoops
  • motorcycles
  • going outside (to walk, play, take Rudy out with daddy)
  • reading books before bed
  • playing rough games
  • doing whatever Joy is doing (or messing up whatever she is trying to create)

Dislikes
Simon is very sensitive and punishments don't have to be that severe to elicit tears and a change of heart.

Favorite event this month

Being able to spend all summer with both sets of grandparents and extended family! We had so much outside playing time all summer. Simon is also enjoying his new home in Estonia.
