We set off bright and early from Hong Kong on our long anticipated vacation to Sri Lanka. This is the first vacation that we have taken with Joy. We have gone to visit Grandparents in the US/England but this was different (we had to arrange baby cots, figure out baby food, car seat, and find hotels with lobbies that we could hang out in since Joy goes to bed at 7pm). Sri Lanka really was one of our favorite vacations in the past 8 years of marriage and travel.
Joy did great on the flight and we arrived into the sweaty Colombo airport. Of course the car that picked us up had no seat belts (so the car seat was useless!). After the harrowing LONG drive (due to Easter traffic) we arrived in Galle at Morley's villa (an amazing "homestay," which was really a bed & breakfast with a 4 acre garden).
We spent the morning sightseeing- trying not to melt in the intense heat, humidity and sunshine
We spent the afternoons relaxing in the shade, listening to thunder showers while Joy napped and got a chance to crawl around.
In the evenings we enjoyed walking around the old town again (Joy couldn't get enough of looking at the ocean and all the animals ), and then reading our books on the verandah while fireflies flickered and crickets chirped.

We enjoyed seeing so many amazing birds (Kingfisher pictured above). Brad got to drink a fresh coconut and we both got to taste fresh cinnamon bark (it tasted just like cinnamon gum)
The villa had a little fish tank that Joy LOVED...she is pointing "Take me over there to see the fish"In the evenings we enjoyed walking around the old town again (Joy couldn't get enough of looking at the ocean and all the animals ), and then reading our books on the verandah while fireflies flickered and crickets chirped.
We saw monkeys....which is why Joy now can do a monkey noise so well!
Sunset roof top terrace dinner. Not many baby seats in Sri Lanka (or if they did there were no seat belts), so Brad's belt came in very handy!
